At the beginning of December, 6 of us met for the last meeting of the Fruit and Vegetable Group this year and Jan Robinson was the host.
We usually have twice that number attending this enthusiastic group but the weather and time of year were a factor. It had rained for days and days and the day of the meeting was no exception, so sadly no photographs of us in our green wellies! It was even too wet and muddy for us to venture into Jan’s large garden.
We discussed growing conditions in our gardens this year. Cold late spring, hot summer. Asparagus good, excellent sweet corn, also climbing French beans and courgettes…………………………(if watered).
After coffee and delicious mince pies, we watched a 1990 DVD of Geoff Hamilton designing and planting-up an ornamental garden. Fruit trees on the fences, soft fruit, shrubs, annual flowers interspersed with vegetables. It looked very good and gives us enthusiasm for the new year.
Roll on February 2019 and our next meeting when we can get seed sowing again! It will be held at the home of Steve and Mary Dimond.
