The group holds a free ranging discussion on a subject usually proposed at the time by the meeting host. Sometimes prior notice of the subject is given. The aim is to promote free and frank dialogue between the participants, usually seven or eight in number though numbers can vary between four and ten. Controversial and political subjects may be discussed but good manners always prevail.
On occasions, a short briefing is delivered by the host or an invited speaker i.e. on China, whereas on other occasions immediate discussion follows, such as with NHS.
During the past few years we have covered a wide range of subjects including: Human Rights; Global Warming; Boys and reading; the effect of Supermarkets on our lives; China – history and future; Do poseurs get top jobs because they interview well?; Silicon Valley and how computers have affected our lives; the EU referendum before the vote; the consequences of Brexit after the vote.
We have been using zoom during the pandemic, so if you are interested in joining us, please contact the Group Leader.
