Thank you Ann for your generosity in yet again hosting the Walkers happy mince pie meeting before Christmas, with an aside to Warren the quiet backroom man, who does a lot of the fetching and carrying etc. Ann raised £75 from this meeting as well as from her Winter Warmer and Save The Children will be the beneficiaries.
Even if it is pouring with rain on a forthcoming Monday, it would still be worthwhile turning up to Pixon Lane as Mary and Steve have kindly said they would put on the photo show of Steve’s epic adventures in Nepal, this last Autumn. They could accommodate 10-12, and it would be a chance to see landscapes few others have ever seen.
As a result of the discussions and many suggestions we had around a pub lunch in the Spring, the consensus was for The White Hart at Bridestow for the 30th March. David and I will check that out, and let everyone know in due course how we get on.
Waterproof trousers, so essential for added warmth and dryness this time of year, David mentioned are available for sale from Tavistock golf club pro’s shop, access from car park.
Amblers – programme for January
6th Jan David is leading from the Leeden Tor car park, a circular route taking in quite a lot of archaeology. If weather is poor he will re-route to Denham Bridge for shelter.
13th Jan TBA
20th Jan Elizabeth will show you the shy beauty of the snowdrops at Sourton Church.
27th Jan Barbara will take you by train to Plymouth and onto Central Park. The group will be starting later than usual, details and timings are available from Barbara Schofield.
Explorers – plan for January
We have agreed to stay with our “walking by committee” approach, that served us so well before Christmas, for the next month or so.
Whilst the weather is so unpredictable it seems best to fit our destination to the visibility and ground saturation levels.
We guarantee a walk will take off, unless its so bad we all take Mary and Steve up on their photos offer
I look forward to seeing many of you at the New Year’s Day walk/lunch, at The Elephant’s Nest.
