West Dartmoor u3a was started in Tavistock in 1991 by a small group of enthusiastic people who were inspired by the movement’s founders – Eric Midwinter, Peter Lazlett and Michael Young.
A launch meeting was held, 47 people signed up as members and suggestions quickly came forward so that by the following year 14 interest groups had been formed.
That enthusiasm, camaraderie, quest for knowledge and concern for others continues to today and is a feature of West Dartmoor.
We offer a low cost annual membership with a variety of interest groups run by the members for the members. Members are retired or semi-retired with no parental responsibility and there is something for everyone. It’s an opportunity to meet others with similar interests and share skills and life experiences.
