A team of 17 skilled needleworkers, including West Dartmoor members and led by Susan Reynolds spent 5 years on a magnificent embroidery work depicting everyday life in Tavistock.
The textile, recently unveiled, is on display in the Robing Room of Tavistock Guildhall and over 50 scenes of the history of Tavistock are depicted in a light-hearted way.
The work by the team of stitchers was never interupted, even by covid and the
virus is depicted along with many other activities including the Goose Fair, the Spitfire Suffragettes and the French POW’s.
This textile complements the Tavistock Embroidery, a more formal depiction of the town’s history, on show in the town hall. Most of the 50 scenes are inspired by the work of town historian Gerry Woodcock, a much loved and much missed member of the u3a.
