Yet more unsettled weather was braved by the Explorers in Long Ash recently. The weather forecast was dreadful but the walkers were fortunate to avoid most of the rain, although muddy paths made walking strenuous at times.
Liz and David Wilson guided the group on a 5 mile walk across open fields towards Buckland Monachorum.
The inquisitive walkers noted a community orchard just coming into blossom on the edge of the village, and stopped to enjoy coffee in the church grounds. As they were walking through the village they passed a pair of red shoes by the side of the road – very intriguing and unexpected on a wet April day.
The remaining walk, on a mixture of minor roads and footpaths to Berra Tor, was almost an anti climax after the red shoes, but very enjoyable with extensive views of the Walkham valley and the May blossom just emerging.
