A wonderful VE Day Celebration Tea, served by our Nippys in the presence of Britannia, was enjoyed by 55 members on Saturday 10th May. The Parish Rooms were transformed into our version of a ‘Lyons Corner House’ and was the setting for our commemoration of the VE Day anniversary.
A Memory Board had been created by Barbara Schofield and childhood memories ranged from surviving the bombing of Liverpool, London and
Plymouth to being evacuated to the country and enjoying the freedom of outdoor life.
Letters from a father, serving abroad, to his daughter were also on display as was ‘The Diary of a Common Soldier’ transcribed by his daughter for all to read.
A Tombola, raising £80 for the Royal British Legion, singing accompanied by David Jowett and a topical quiz, all added to the enjoyment as did the costumes on display.
Councillor Paul Ward, Mayor of Tavistock, attended with the Mayoress and a good time was had by all.
