A group of us visited Mount Edgcumbe Park in July via bus and ferry. We were very lucky with the weather, the sun shone all day and we didnt lose anyone!
We used the local bus into Plymouth, picking up group members on the way and ended up at
Admirals Hard where we boarded the Cremyll Ferry.
Barbara, Anne and Valerie had recc’d the trip in advance, checking not only timings of the buses and ferries but also potential areas to think about for a u3a group. E.G. How far was it to walk from the ferry landing to the House, were the paths even, places to stop for refreshments etc. Everyone was well briefed before we started and was able to fully enjoy the day, without any issues.
The Guide for Edgcumbe House was certainly a character and gave us a thoroughly entertaining
look inside the House and a brief history of the family and their impact on the local area going back centuries.
We left Mount Edgcumbe on the Barbican ferry, via Royal William Yard and walked back to Royal Parade for the 4.30pm
bus, a little tired but having had a super day out.
Unfortunately we got caught up by the terrible road accident at Grenofen, so the bus was turned back to Plymouth, at Yelverton, and we finally made it home at gone 7pm.
A great day out and thank you very much to Barbara Schofield, who is a Friend of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, for organising the day.
